osculator

Want to make music and motion with unusual inputs, like Wii controllers, Lemur multi-touch touchscreens, Monomes, and (now) 3D mice? OSCulator is a wonderful app that supports OpenSoundControl and sends MIDI events, with support for some hardware that can’t be supported any other way. The new 2.5 version adds new stuff:

  • SpaceNavigator 3D mouse device support
  • Mouse support
  • Raw IR data from the Wiimote controller (Nintendo Wii)
  • AppleScripting
  • OSC Forward
  • Keyboard combos
  • “Meta events”

Software like Max/MSP and Reaktor will support OSC natively, but using MIDI input and output, you can hook up Kyma workstations and any MIDI software under the sun.

Software is pay-what-you-will, with a US$29 minimum.

Camille Troillard is the wonderful musician you can thank for this tool, a member of the band Neimo which evidently is coming stateside, so stay tuned!

Will this program allow me to use the rock band drums (Xbox360 version) as a midi controller in Live?

  4. Peter Kirn says:

@John: this software is probably not what you're looking for for that. See here:

ok. i see the words "OSC" and "AppleScript" in the same sentence and i am PSYCHED. can't wait to use my monome to control my computer for non-music computery stuff!!!

This is exactly what I was looking for! I had been attempting to write a JNI wrapper to pass the SpaceNavigator state to Processing, but came across this and it works extremely well – had it passing info with no lag to Processing over OSC in 10 mins.

I'm trying to send MIDI data from a homebuild MIDI controller to Ableton on my Macbook Pro. In Windows there are several options for drivers that takes the MIDI formatted, serial signal sent from the Arduino board to the computer's usb port, converts it, and routes it to the a virtual MIDI port.

Now, I haven't been able to find any drivers for Mac, despite a lot of discussion of the need for a generic Arduino to MIDI driver in the .

To circumvent this problem I was stoked to see this product. Whether the Arduino board outputs MIDI serial data or OSC doesn't really matter. So my question is: Does anybody know if it accepts serial data from any serial usb device, as long as it outputs OSC on that port (usually COM2-5)?

…If this VST translates midi to OSC then whats the point of OSC?

i mean if u have 128 values in midi wouldn it still be 128 in osc if you use a midi controller and this vst to translate it to osc?…or even the other way around…

ohh and BTW…to Peter… i really like CDM and would like to thank you for making this site and keeping it fresh…

well that was my good happy moment of the fun super day!… the rest will probably suck now 😛
