Preparation for the tour is winding up, and it’s looking like – not satisfied with my current workload to have visuals ready – I will be working on the general stage lighting utilizing projectors rather than traditional lighting rigs.
The software side is looking like a Jitter job, but I haven’t been keeping up with projectors recently, so I thought I’d check in with you, enlightened reader: What’s your current pick for a cheap, bright projector? We’ll be using something a bit more advanced for the main screen, but for the stage lighting it’s not so critical to have things like horizontal keystoning, we just something robust, which spits out the most light per dollar spent.
I've been meaning to write a review up for one of these for a while now – I HIGHLY recommend the Dell 2400MP for a situation like this. 3,000 lumens for just over $1k.
Oh, yeah, that's what we were all wowed by in SF at the Video Lounge. And having seen it in person, I was impressed. Some of the previous MP series hadn't blown me away, but this one seems like an improvement. Ability to customize the Dell logo == bonus.
Fantastish! Dell currently has the 2400MP on special in Aus, so I'll see if I can fast-track the order. AU$1500 for 3000 lumens is a great photon/dollar ratio!
they are a terrible company
they lack any nice feature
no real specs or manual
they overheat if not well ventilated
but
they are DVI
they are xga
they are very bright – 2000 lumens
and they are dirt cheap $730 – tigerdirect
(I bought five)
Acer pd120d
great site – read it everyday
Anyone use the Evo by Lumenlab? Not sure if it fits your needs, but the price is right and it uses cheap bulbs. We should be reviewing one in about a month.
Ha! Love the endorsement, Garret. But I hear you.
So the Dell looks like it's as cheap as US$1000, which is pretty amazing for 3000 lumens. And there's an optional universal ceiling mount kit. I'm intrigued.
