Our friend Tim points us to this ad, apparently in EQ Magazine, in which Digidesign promises version 7 of Pro Tools HD on October 7. (Notice it specifies HD, not LE, in the ad; LE and M-Powered are likely to lag a little.) This isn’t any huge surprise — if nothing else, Digi has run out of numbers following the release of Pro Tools 6.9. More on this story as it comes in. Image of the ad after the break.

Personally, I’m excited that October 7 is also the US release date of the new Wallace & Gromit movie.

Yeah, I'm much more interested in the movie. What can PT7 possibly have to justify a full new version?

Personally I'm MORE excited about Wallace and Gromit than PT7.

Someday, when I have abundant cash flow and clients, I may pony up for a full HD system. In the meantime, Logic 7 is treating me well.

I wonder, however, if anything from the recent Wizoo purchase will be included in this new Digi release?

Yeah, I'm perfectly happy with my Live – Reason – Logic – Max/MSP/Jitter setup here. So I'll save up my $20 for W&G and popcorn. (It's NYC; adjust accordingly your budget if you live in an affordable part of the world.)

That said, yes, I do bet you'll find new instruments in the bundle. Look at the Wizoo purchase, new synth releases, larger LE bundle, etc. It's clear that, even though there's a big gap between a native software customer and an HD customer, Digi is paying mind to the more music-focused software from the competition, which leans more heavily to virtual instruments, MIDI and arrangement features, etc.
