Not just a little small and a little inexpensive. A lot little.
Malaventura, aka Fernando Garcia Tamajon, sends this wonderful “cheesy pocket techno jam” (spotted via Instagram).
The ingredients:
a PO-14 from teenage engineering, a monotron Delay from Korg and a talking translator by an unknown brand bought in a fleamarketn
Works for me. There’s something about things being small, self-contained, simple … that can be inspiring. For all those years of people derisively calling things “toys,” sometimes toys are exactly what we need. I love that mystery gear, too.
I wouldn’t call this cheesy. Simple: yes; minimalist: yes; raw: yes .. but not cheesy (IHO). IF you want to hear cheesy music … check out any Sweetwater gear demo.
I think the artist manages to create a really good vibe.
No, the artist dubbed it cheesy. 🙂 That’s actually the name of the jam!
So, cheesy as in … tasty, maybe?
Cheese is delicious!

This is really nice. What makes me wonder in such videos is if it’s actually possible to play a whole set (~60 minutes) with such a small setup or if these setups work only for 5-10 minutes musically.
I am, after many years, going back to hardware, not only, but also for my free improvisation performances. Will be experimenting driving two volcas (sample, keys), an access virus b using an iPad+Lemur+iConnect2+ and QuNeo+MIDI Expander controller combos.
I did a 60min set a couple weeks ago with a Volca Sample & Keys, TB-3, and Monotribe (plus a couple FX pedals. With the mixer, the footprint was about the size of a large kitchen cutting board.

Hi!
The name Cheesy I think is appropriated cos’ it sounds like an eastern europe techno track from the 90s, it has that underground, cheesy, tasty and lo-fi feeling that works for this kind of slow dark techno.
I’m planning to make more jams, I have more little “toys” to connect between each other like a meccano. These jams are really fun to prepare & play & also show how a little & limited setup can boost your creativity.
So stay tuned to malaventura’s youtube channel https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCATMjDAeAM3wJzzJXHwkEiA
Thanks for watching and comment

I’ll be damned if this doesn’t sound like it could be from one of Cabaret Voltaire’s early albums.

nice little jam. I like the sound of that talking translator through the monotribe.
