For digital DJs, the computer often still trumps the iPad. You get (much) more storage, more flexible use of hardware, more features. But wouldn’t it be nice to use a tablet for X/Y control of effects?

TKFX does that, and nothing else – but it does it damned well. It works on Android and iOS alike, and it’s dead-simple – and powerful. Traktor’s effects are one of the best features of the platform; this finally gives you intuitive control over them.

Features:
Hold function
BPM sync
Up to four effect units
Four memory banks
Use in single or group mode

You can also pre-program the effects you want to use – 4 banks x 4 each, for a total of 16.

Free to buy; add additional modules as in-app purchases. It’s pretty capable as-is for some users; US$0.99 each unlocks specific unlimited features or US$5.94 opens up everything, so you can be flexible with your needs.

Very cool app, and I totally missed that it’s Android as well! Hoping that is a trend because touchOSC was getting lonely.

This certainly looks cool, but what if your controller already has enough knobs and buttons? Then this just becomes one more thing for elitist vinyl snobs to make fun of. NOTE: I’m not calling all vinyl DJs snobs. I’m just talking about the haters.

I downloaded this app, but I’m having a lot of trouble getting it to actually work. I have the stand-alone app running on my Traktor Mac and it links, I also have the preset controller file loaded and pointed at the right interface, but it’s not doing anything. It doesn’t get updates from traktor and I’ve only been successful at using whatever default effect was selected, but I can’t select effects or target effects units.

edit: I figured it out. The app is free. You have to unlock all the features. Still not bad for $6. It could be a little more intuitive about turning effects off and on.
